"Lifes ambition occupies my time ...Priorities confuse the mind, Happiness one step behind... This inner peace Ive yet to find" ... these lines probably aptly characterize each one of us. Today everyone seems to be running after career, professional satisfaction, ambition to be the best where ever you land up, achievements in all forms ... In the midst of finding the way through this materialistic world, we forget ourselves, people around, inner peace ... and personal satisfaction!!
Why does one earn? ... for many work is synonymous with earning their daily breads, for some it reflects the desire to live easily with luxuries, for few its about having a name of her/his own (independence) and for a few it is to do with affording a decent life ... but the bottom line is that we earn to live, to afford ourselves, to be respected ... and after all to be content and happy !!
Can earning income alone suffice life? well you do not need to be a rocket scientist to answer this question ... You can earn a million dollar ... can own a mansion, the best of the cars ... can be awarded a distinguished world prize ... but think about it ... if there is no one close enough to share the happiness of being successful ... how would it feel ... ?
This is not to say that one should just forget about work and achievements ... there is a balance that one needs to create between the two - the personal and professional life. Real satisfaction is a mix of both ... one of the two alone, can never be enough ... Yes, focus on the priorities is a must for all of us, but make sure that the priorities do not just revolve around money, fame, status, proving yourself ... there are other things in life that may not look lucrative in the short run but remain with one forever ... !! Respect life, respect your self, respect people around ... thats the simplest way to be content ... and then think about maximizing happiness with other comforts of life ...

You certainly carry big ideas on your young shoulders.
Set your priorities right. The rest will follow as per your desire. If priority confuses the mind everything else will.
Have you ever paused to watch a ant rolling a grain of sugar to its mole hill. Here you have a live example of a) Priority [winning the sugar grain]
b) Ambition [dragging it home]
c) Happiness [rolling it to its mole hill].
There is happiness all around you. You do not have to wear your sneakers and hunt for it. Just look around. Observe.
Have you ever seen the divine happiness on a baby's eyes when it wakes up to confront its mother's face?
Have you watched the heart warming expression of deep happiness on a white haired lady's face when she looks up at her white haired husband?
Happiness is an attitude, a state of mind, a perspective. It varies from individual to individual.
Hitler derived his happiness from genocide of thousands of jews in his gas chambers.
Roman emperor Nero gloated in happiness on seeing his human victims turned into torches.
Idi Amin of Uganda obtained intense happiness on seeing human organs cooked for him on his dinning table.
What more happiness would you desire after watching a blind man;after watching a cripple coping with the traffic on a busy road; after watching a one legged human trying to board a bus.
Happiness my dear is like your shadow.Run after it and it will flee faster. Turn around and ignore it. It will chase you.
Happiness does not have to be shared. If you are genuinely happy your happiness will radiate. It is highly infectious, believe me.
The secret of being contended and happy is to learn the art of being with yourself alone. Why do you yearn for company to be happy?
The other secret I have learnt from harsh experience is to follow the dictum, Live today as if tomorrow will never come. Believe in today;today belongs to you. Yesterday belongs to eternity and tomorrow belongs to posterity. They both do not, repeat, do not belong to you.
I will reproduce for you a poem that Gautam sent me recently:
THE CLOCK OF LIFE IS WOUND BUT ONCE,
AND NO MAN HAS THE POWER
TO TELL JUST WHEN THE HANDS WILL STOP
AT LATE OR EARLY HOUR.
NOW IS THE ONLY TIME YOU OWN
LIVE, LOVE' TOIL WITH A WILL
PLACE NO FAITH IN TIME
FOR THE CLOCK MAY SOON BE STILL.
I continue to be amazed by your out pourings. Such a large head on such slender shoulders. Great stuff. Keep it up.
God bless.

Hey Paro .. Thank you so much for that comment!! Happiness is a state of mind .. [Source: Pursuit of HappYness :)].. so the concept is highly individualistic .. Work surely is one of the most important aspects of one's life .. but is that all .. is what m asking .. work, profession, personal life etc, all are necessary but none of these alone can be sufficient ..
And I agree, it is a search process .. so where I started from can be some one else's destination .. nevertheless, enjoy the journey ..
